In the past week, the Bears have said goodbye to former Pro Bowlers Matt Forte and Jermon Bushrod. Could Martellus Bennett be next on that list?
Although there has been no announcement that would suggest that is the case, the mercurial tight end’s Instagram page might be suggesting otherwise. On Tuesday afternoon, Bennett posted a photo of picturesque rock formations with the caption “West Coast. Same Dreams. Same Goals. New Beginnings.”

Bennett campaigned for a new contract last summer, though the rhetoric faded before the season began. He has amassed 2,114 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in three seasons for the Bears. The veteran sat out the final four games of the 2016 season with an injury.
On Monday, Bennett cryptically tweeted: “It was fun! Thanks for the good times.”
He is signed through 2016 and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2017.
