In Woodlawn, a 39-year-old man hit by a car Tuesday died of head and neck blunt force injuries. The Medical Examiner's Office determined the case to be a homicide.
In Austin, a 38-year-old man was fatally shot Monday in the 5800 block of West Superior Street, police said. One day earlier, a 28-year-old man was shot to death in the 2400 block of West Flournoy Street on the Near West Side, according to officials.
Austin, Chicago's largest community area, has recorded 33 homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. Thirty homicides were logged there last year.
The Near West Side has recorded 14 homicides so far this year, according to RedEye data. Nine homicides were logged there last year.
Woodlawn has recorded 20 homicides so far this year, RedEye determined. Twelve homicides were logged there last year.
Ten homicides have been recorded so far this month. Thirty-seven homicides were logged in December last year, RedEye data shows.
