The big idea behind Chicago Ideas Week is accessibility. Every year, organizers pull together a curated experience of celebrity speakers, innovative discussions and interactive events for Chicagoans to enjoy—all offered at a discounted rate. Because most tickets go for just $15, many of this year’s events are already sold out. Lucky for you, we scoured the events that are still available and found some real gems. Candle Making and Community with Bright Endeavors

By teaching young mothers how to make sustainable soy candles, Bright Endeavors provides transitional jobs while maintaining a profit. Learn more about the company’s history and mission, tour the facility and then participate in a candle-making workshop. $15.

Monetizing Music with Jammber

2-4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17
Jammber, a Nashville-based entertainment technology company, hosts this lab to educate participants on how original music is crafted and pushed to consumers in the age of Spotify and Tidal. No mixtape required. $15.

Rebuilding the South Side: Comer Education Campus Tour with Architect John Ronan
Gary Comer Youth Center | 7200 S. Ingleside Ave.
1:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18
Meet award-winning Chicago architect John Ronan and tour one of his most inspirational designs, the Comer Education Campus. Later, participants will join a group of local teens on the facility’s rooftop garden for a quick activity. $15.

Policing: Force of the Future

4-5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18
A five-person panel, including NPR host Cheryl Corley and BET News host Marc Lamont Hill, discusses the current perception of police within our community and how to reimagine the role into something more positive. $15.

Beekeeping 101 at the North Lawndale Employment Network

9 a.m.-noon Wednesday Oct. 19
At Sweet Beginnings, beekeeping jobs are giving former inmates life-changing career opportunities. Join the program’s beekeepers while they harvest honey from a hive (taste test included) and learn about the positive impact these jobs have on the community. $15.

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? Dating, Love & Relationships

The River North seafood restaurant hosts this conversation on dating in the 21st century, being authentic online and in person and more over dinner, wine and beer. $80.

In Conversation with Bryan Cranston

1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23
Walter White from “Breaking Bad” aka Hal from “Malcolm in the Middle” aka Brian Cranston IRL joins Chicago Ideas and Uptake founder Brad Keywell on stage for an unfiltered conversation about his life, childhood and most challenging roles thus far. Plus, tickets include a signed copy of Cranston’s memoir, “A Life in Parts.” $35.
