Welcome to the Bears Binge, where every week RedEye prepares you for the matchup facing the Monsters of the Midway. From reasons to dislike the opposing team to an offbeat look at the ’85 Bears anniversary, we’ll have fun with this and hope you do too.
YOU MAD? YOU SHOULD BE
Players and coaches talk all about how they respect their opponents. Really, that’s what they should do. But fans don’t have to. Here are three reasons Bears die-hards should dislike the Packers (and things related to them) this week.
Aaron Rodgers
It has to start here, pretty much until the star quarterback retires. In fact, one teen Bears fan from Indiana told the Elkhart Truth he dislikes Rodgers so much he named his tumor after him (so he can beat it).
Mike McCarthy
The coach told a packed luncheon recently, “We will proudly stand as the 95th team in the history of the Green Bay Packers when we kick Chicago’s ass!” So. Angry. Right. Now.
4 men who allegedly sold stolen beer
According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, four men were arrested for allegedly selling $4,000 worth of stolen beer at the Packers’ preseason game Sept. 3. If true, this is an affront to brewers and fans everywhere. Not even Packers fans should be sold stolen beer.
THE ’85 BEARS ARE HOW OLD?
ICYMI, 2015 marks the 30th anniversary of the 1985 Bears, the last team to bring a Super Bowl title to Chicago. And as anyone who has experienced it knows, turning 30 can be a pain. Each week we’ll give you an idea what Bears fans who remember the magic of 1985 must be going through.
Now that I’m 30 … I can no longer tell people, “I’m in my 20s.”
Football equivalent: C’mon guys, it’s getting a little embarrassing that we’ve been waiting this long for another Super Bowl win.
