Mash-ups are everywhere. Most of them are either terrible or hilarious while the truly memorable ones are actually pretty great. Fortunately, “Chance the Dropout,” an ambitious 23-song tape blending Chance the Rapper’s vocals with classic Kanye West beats, falls into the latter category.
Created by DJ Critical Hype and DJ Clyde, who worked on the project for over a year and a half, “Chance the Dropout” spans both Chance and Kanye’s discographies to show how much the two are kindred creative spirits. Talking to Pigeons and Planes, DJ Critical Hype had this to say, “I love Chance as an artist and Kanye is one of the best producers of all time.” He adds, “They are both from Chicago and Chance is always talking about how big of an influence Kanye was and is. It seemed like a match made in heaven and a great way to bridge the gap of a new and older Chicago artist.”
