You may have seen the cast and crew of “Boss” in downtown Chicago over the past couple of weeks. (On Tuesday RedEye spotted star Kelsey Grammer at one of his city haunts, Spacca Napoli Pizzeria in Ravenswood.) They’ve been filming Season 2 of the series, which Starz will premiere at 9 p.m. Aug. 17, the network has announced.

Chicagoans can catch glimpses of even more stars on the show’s locations: The ensemble cast is growing. Jonathan Groff (“Spring Awakening,” “Glee”), Sanaa Lathan (“Nip/Tuck,” “A Raisin in the Sun”) join the regular cast, while rapper T.I. (“American Gangster,” “Takers”) and Steppenwolf Theatre ensemble member Amy Morton (“Up in the Air,” “Private Practice”) will guest star. They join Grammer, who plays fictional Chicago Mayor Tom Kane in the political drama, as well as co-stars Connie Nielsen, Hannah Ware, Jeff Hephner, Kathleen Robertson, Troy Garity and Rotimi.

Says Starz of Season 2: “Kane (Grammer) ferociously beats back the physical symptoms of his illness with high doses of medication. But this comes at a cost- experiencing heightened psychological manifestations of the disease. Without his longtime advisers Stone and Kitty, Kane is also forced to reconfigure his inner circle. Surrounded by strangers and without much time left, he acts quickly to protect and repair his legacy by cutting out the cancers within the political machine. But as corrupt heads roll and his list of enemies grows, Kane’s virtuous actions begin to erode the very foundation of power he’s worked a lifetime to build. In order to maintain it, Kane must govern as he always has–ruthlessly.”

Check out the photos of some of the new cast members and what characters they will play.
