Benedict Cumberbatch almost didn’t use his awesome name professionally, he tells Katie Couric on Wednesday’s “Katie.”

The British actor known for the PBS drama “Sherlock” used Benedict Carlton (his middle name) as his professional monicker for a short time. Then his new agent asked why he wasn’t using the now famous Cumberbatch.

“Because it sounds like a fart in a bath,” he says.

Watch the video above to see hear he has such an army of fans–Cumberbuddies, Cumberbabes, Cumberbros. The way he says, then translates, “fart in a bath” is priceless. (Although Couric really loses it a little too much.)

Cumberbatch also talked about Julian Assange, whom he plays in the new film “The Fifth Estate.” Watch below.
