If you watched Cubs-Cardinals on Sunday instead of Bears-Cowboys, you probably slept better.
The Bears trailed Dallas 24-3 at halftime and never really threatened to take the lead, eventually losing 31-17 and stumbling to an 0-3 record. Still, because there are 13 more of these games, let’s look at six bright spots.
Jacoby Glenn
The second-year cornerback’s timing seems to be good when it comes to breaking up passes at the last second. Do replays show he perhaps shows up a smidge early? Perhaps, though that’s on the officials. He also forced a fumble after being burned for what would have been a 50-yard-ish Cowboys completion. Points for not giving up.
John Fox
The coach tried an onside kick right after a Connor Barth field goal made it 17-3. And the Bears recovered it! Sigh. Until a penalty negated that bit of good news and they had to re-kick. But at least it showed Fox and his staff aren’t completely void of creativity. Question though: Why didn’t he try another one when the Bears cut the lead to 31-17? What did he have to lose?
Bo Jackson
Those “Tecmo Bowl” commercials starring the former star running back (and one-time White Sox outfielder) are fantastic. The “Madden” games are classic in their own right, but anyone who played as Jackson on the original Nintendo knows a special kind of video gaming football bliss.
Adrian Amos
The Bears safety absolutely unloaded on Cole Beasley in the first quarter, knocking the receiver back 3 yards and temporarily preventing a Cowboys first down. That clean hit to the midsection is exactly what you want to see out of your defense. Less so for the “hey look at me” slow-walk he did afterward.
Brian Hoyer
He looks like he’ll be really good … as a backup. Can the Bears plan on winning a Super Bowl with him? No. Yet he refused to wilt behind a struggling offensive line, passing for 317 yards and two touchdowns. Those numbers would have been even better had his receivers not dropped a few perfectly placed passes. And had he not fumbled on the Bears’ penultimate possession.
Kevin White
Forget his numbers, though they were decent Sunday. Just look at this circus catch:
