The 2017 season is still a few months away, and yet the White Sox might have already won the Best Giveaway Award (if such an honor existed).
Ken “Hawk” Harrelson, the team’s longtime TV play-by-play announcer, is known for his extremely enthusiastic calls. And now fans can use them to wake up in the morning.
On May 13, the first 20,000 fans who show up at the White Sox-San Diego game at Guranteed Rate Field can get their hands on a Hawk Harrelson alarm clock.
According to a White Sox tweet, those who receive one can expect to hear:
“Stretch!”
“You can put in on the boooaaard, yes!”
“Rack ’em up.”
“Mercy!”
“He gone!”
“And this ballgame is o-vah!”
A fine sampling of Hawk-isms, to be sure, but what about these classics?
“What are you doin’?! He threw him out of the ballgame? You gotta be bleepin’ me!” (When Jose Quintana was ejected from a game in May 2012)
“Call your sons, call your daughters. Call your friends, call your neighbors.” (Entering the ninth inning of Mark Buehrle’s perfect game in July 2009)
“Alexei … YEEEEEEESSSS! YES! YES! YES! YES!” (From Mark Buehrle’s perfect game in July 2009)
“Dadgummit!” (various times)
“Look at the play by Buehrle! Mercy! Wow!” (From Buehrle’s amazing, between-the-legs putout on Opening Day 2010)
Is it too much (or too soon) to ask for a second giveaway?
