Eight men in their 20s or younger were shot to death in eight Chicago community areas in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
The victims were: a 17-year-old Monday in Roseland; a 19-year-old Sunday in West Englewood; a 23-year-old Saturday in South Lawndale; a 25-year-old Saturday in Auburn Gresham; a 21-year-old Friday in North Lawndale; a 22-year-old Friday on the Near West Side; a 25-year-old June 30 in West Garfield Park; and a 16-year-old June 29 in Brighton Park, according to officials.
Meanwhile, June ended last week with 44 homicides, down from 54 homicides in June last year, RedEye data shows.
Six homicides have been logged so far this month. Police recorded 42 homicides in July last year, RedEye found.
