Parkland shooting survivors David and Lauren Hogg recalled their recent visit to Chicago on Tuesday’s episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
“At St. Sabina Church, they go out and do a peace march, and it’s amazing to experience,” said David Hogg, 18. “It’s on the South Side, but what I’ve realized is in these communities, even though they have to deal with so many things, kind of like what our community dealt with, but for them it’s a daily basis, there are places of such strength and beauty and love. I never even thought that there could be that much of that in this completely just, sadly, broken world, but through them I know we can fix it, and I know we will.”
Survivors of the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School kicked off their March for Our Lives: Road to Change bus tour last week in Chicago. Hundreds of people, including Chicago natives Chance the Rapper and Jennifer Hudson, participated in Friday’s anti-violence march organized by St. Sabina Catholic Church on the South Side.
Parkland survivors also met with Chicago-area students Saturday in Naperville to discuss the effects of gun violence and encourage them to register to vote.
The Hogg siblings’ book, “#NeverAgain: A New Generation Draws the Line,” came out Tuesday. David Hogg said profits from book sales will go to taxes and charities, including efforts to end gun violence in Chicago.
“The Tonight Show” airs at 10:35 p.m. weeknights on NBC.
