Indiana state health officials are reporting a fourth death related to a deadly fungal meningitis outbreak.

Indiana state health officials are reporting a fourth death related to a deadly fungal meningitis outbreak.

The Indiana State Department of Health couldn't provide any additional information about the latest death connected to the outbreak. The agency said there are 51 cases of fungal meningitis in Indiana.

The victims contracted the deadly but not contagious illness after receiving a spine injection of a preservative-free steroid called methylprednisolone acetate that was contaminated by a fungus. The steroid is used to treat pain and inflammation.
