A sixth person connected to Indiana has died from the fungal meningitis outbreak linked to an injectable steroid.
According to the Indiana State Health Department, the latest victim was from out of state and not an Indiana resident. Six people with ties to Indiana have now died from the outbreak; there are 56 confirmed cases in the Hoosier State.
About 14,000 patients received epidural injections of methylprednisolone acetate between May 21 and Sept. 26. According to Indiana State Department of Health, more than 1,500 people in Indiana have been exposed to the contaminated medication through an epidural or joint injection. The shots were linked to the New England Compounding Center in Massachusetts.
The injections have made more than 400 people around the country sick.
