Olympic gold medalist Shaun White has been charged with vandalism and public intoxication following an incident at a hotel in Nashville, Tenn.
According to police, the 26-year-old pulled a fire alarm at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel around 2 a.m. Sunday, prompting an evacuation. An employee also said he saw White destroy a hotel phone.
White then reportedly tried to flee in a cab but a man prevented the cab from leaving. The man told the cab driver he was going to call police at which point, police said, White kicked the man and then fled on foot. The man chased White when White turned and ran into him. This caused White to fall backwards, hitting his head against a fence.
White was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He was released from the hospital late Monday afternoon and is free on his own recognizance. The man declined to prosecute White for assault.
An arrest warrant was issued after White refused to sign misdemeanor citations.
