New information was released Monday about a skull found by a fisherman in the White River.

The coroner's officer said that the skull looks like it's been in the water at least a year.

Right now, a forensic anthropologist is looking at the skull, hoping to find clues into who this person may be.

The question has been raised about the possibility of the skull belonging to missing IU student Lauren Spierer.

“There have been reports that this could possibly be Lauren Spierer but we cannot definitively say it is even a female. So that's the more challenging part, to rule out certain aspects of various investigations,” said Alfie Ballew, Chief Deputy Coroner.

Investigators are hoping to pull DNA from the skull or match the identity from dental records. It could take up to eight weeks for the results.
