The whole reason we work out is to look good. We want to lose weight, tone up and fit into those skinny jeans. So why shouldn't you look good while working out?
It is possible to snag some cute workout gear that makes hitting the gym a bit easier to bear. We've found some great clothes for the gym that are shown here and asked Holly Swanson, owner of Core Chicago Pilates at 2549 N. Racine Ave. in Lincoln Park, to share some popular workouts for us.
After all, with the holidays creeping ever so close--and all those extra calories lurking--it's time to get serious about getting fit.
Swanson says spinning is a tough workout, but it gets results. "Spinning is great for weight loss and a good cross training choice for runners and swimmers," she said. "I suggest a mix of heavy hills, fast sprints and long flat roads for a good interval workout."
For those a bit wary of trying spinning for the first time, Core offers a half Pilates/half spinning class to ease you in. Plus, if it's your first class at Core, it's free--a good way to test new workouts.
Cardio classes such as Zumba or Piloxing have been popular as of late, while Pilates is a tried-and-true workout, Swanson said.
It's ideal for abdominal strength, increasing flexibility and maintaining a healthy spine and good posture. But make sure to always go to a certified Pilates instructor--and to ask questions. "If you don't know where you are supposed to feel an exercise, ask," she said. "That way you won't get hurt."
