There were many to choose from, but I narrowed it down to 10 of my favorites--most of them committed on Twitter, most of them by celebrities. I say this with total sincerity: These make my job worth it. (WARNING: Spicy language ahead.)
When #McDStories became a bashtag
What happened when McDonald's started a hashtag to get people to share their favorite McDonald's memories on Twitter? Nothing good. Users hijacked the hashtag to share things like "The last time I ate a McFish I vomited for an hour."
The Day Chris Brown Finally Quit Twitter
I limited this list to only one Chris Brown social media f-up--it was difficult. But Brown’s ranty breakdown of tweets in response to writer Jenny Johnson's tweets to him
, which eventually led to him deactivating his account (and reinstating it a few weeks later), reigns supreme.
Someone at Betty Crocker loves Stephen Markley
For some reason, the Betty Crocker Facebook page accidentally posted a screenshot of an, um, inappropriate tweet from our own @StephenMarkley
. We're so proud.
Reddit AMA Woody Harrelson
Lesson learned: Don't piss off Reddit users. Harrelson hosted an "Ask Me Anything" on the site, except when users did ask him anything he only talked about the new movie he was in and declined to answer any personal questions. Then he left the chat altogether and let his publicist take over. Users called for a boycott of his movie and declared it the worst ever.
Chief Keef gets fellatio on Instagram
There were stacks of cash in the photo, too. This f-up made me wonder why there isn't a porno version of Instagram yet. Seems logical, all things considered.
SORRY, YOU DON'T GET A PHOTO FOR THIS ONE.
Lindsay Lohan's Hurricane "Sally" tweet
The day Hurricane Sandy was due to hit the East Coast, Lindsay Lohan shared this gem.
The social media manager/producer/intern at StubHub was apparently not having a good Friday when he or she tweeted (and swiftly deleted) this tweet from the @StubHub account. I'll say it: We've all been there, man.
The third most retweeted tweet of all time
First of all, I don't really think this is a social media f-up. It's more of a traditional faux paux, but I just admired it so much that I had to include it in here anyway. Following the epically horrible call by replacement refs that resulted in a 14-2 loss to the Seahawks for the Packers in September, Packers guard T.J. Lang went on an IDGAF Twitter tirade that will go down in history as containing the third most retweeted tweet of all time.

Ashton Kutcher defends JoePa
Apparently nobody told Kutcher why Joe Paterno was fired from Penn State when the news broke. The TV star tweeted in defense of the coach before getting slammed by the entire Internet, apologizing profusely, then vowing to take a break from Twitter.
Nickelodeon suggests Jason Biggs
Some idiot at Nickelodeon thought it would be a good idea to suggest followers of the @TMNTMaster
Twitter account--for the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” series, which Biggs lent his voice for--follow Biggs on his personal Twitter account, @JasonBiggs
. Biggs is actually one of my top 10 favorite people on Twitter, but one quick glance at his feed would have told Nickelodeon that suggesting kids follow him would be the worst PR move ever.
This is, like, the tamest tweet of his I could find.
