Now even more surfing - the digital kind - at Chicago beaches

It's time for more surfing at the beach.

Two more Chicago beaches now allow residents and tourists to surf the internet as Wi-Fi is now offered for free at the Margaret Burroughs Beach, formerly the 31st Street Beach, and 57th Street Beach.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Park District on Thursday announced the expansion of Wi-Fi to serve a total of seven beaches provided through a partnership with Everywhere Wireless and Cisco.

The addition of the two South Side beaches join the list of five city beaches with free high-speed Wi-Fi since 2013 including Rainbow Beach, North Avenue Beach, Montrose Beach, Foster Beach, and Kathy Osterman Beach (also known as Hollywood Beach).

The park district is providing power, electrical work and infrastructure for the wireless service, the city-issued news release said.
