It’s a small world, and you never know into whom you are going to run. And neither did Andrew Hobgood, director and co-author of Steppenwolf Garage’s “reWILDing Genius,” when he bumped into Edward Snowden at today’s TED2014 conference in Vancouver, Canada.
It may have been more than just a casual bump. Snowden spoke and attended the conference via telepresence robot. Hobgood ran right into the Snowden-bot, who greeted him with “Hello, Andrew,” when Snowden read his nametag, he said in a phone interview.
Hobgood described the play, which depicts a group of Chicago “hacktivists” and “cybervigilantes,” to the famous NSA leaker. Snowden then asked Hobgood to snap a photo in a sign of support of the play’s message.
“It was wild,” Hobgood said. “We talk about him quite a bit in the show.”
Will Snowden’s photo drum up support for the show? Tickets are still available, Hobgood said.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
