In the midst of tour cancellations due to "strained vocal chords," rumors are flying that Nicki Minaj will join Mariah Carey at the judges' table on "American Idol."
While nothing has been confirmed, one insider told Us Weekly: "I'm not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it. A few more slight things to sign off on, but it is happening."
Another source told the celebrity gossip news hub that Minaj, 29, is "100% confirmed to judge American Idol." Reps for both Minaj and Fox had no comment on the speculation.
If the reports are true, Minaj is set to join a star-studded cast. Original American Idol judge Randy Jackson, 56, is reportedly returning as a mentor and five-time Grammy Award winner Mariah Carey, 42, confirmed her spot as a judge on July 23.
"As a singer, songwriter and producer, it's going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with 'American Idol,' " she said in a statement. "I can't wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon."
Last year's judges Steven Tyler, 64, and Jennifer Lopez, 42, announced their departure from the show earlier this summer.
Nick Jonas, 19, confirmed rumors that he was in the running to be an "Idol" judge when he took to Twitter recently.
"I am being considered to be a judge on 'American Idol,' and it would be a dream come true if it happens. #nickonidol," he tweeted.
According to insiders, N.E.R.D. frontman Pharrell Williams, 39, is also being considered.
