Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) probably isn't reviewing "Iron Man 2" when he opens the "Iron Man 3" trailer with, "I've got a lot of apologies to make," but he could be. Director Jon Favreau's 2010 sequel to the franchise's strong 2008 beginning fell flat with too many subplots and too many one-liners that weren't funny.

Fortunately "Iron Man 3"--the trailer at least--looks to dial up the urgency and capitalize on the madness of a villain played by Ben Kingsley, who's about as serious an actor as you can get. Not sure who that other Iron Man-looking guy in Pepper's (Gwyneth Paltrow) room is, but I'm excited to see what new energy and sharp humor director/co-writer Shane Black ("Kiss Kiss Bang Bang") will bring to the comic book series.

Based on "Cowboys and Aliens," Jon Favreau needs some time off to recharge.
