Chicagoans will be able to enjoy three days of free taxi rides starting Monday, June 25th and continuing through Wednesday, June 27th courtesy of the mobile app, Uber.
To request a taxi, customers can simply tap TAXI from the app, which is free to download on iPhone and Android, set their pick-up location and press the big green 'request' button.
Uber is best known for its on-demand driver service, but it expanded to taxi service two months ago. With the service, there's no need to pay your cab driver directly. The metered fare plus 20 percent gratuity will be charged to your credit card on file.
Allen Penn, GM of Uber Chicago, said they want to make taking a cab in Chicago a great experience. "The drivers that work with Uber are great and, in combination with Uber's technology, Free Taxi Week is about giving all Chicagoans a great reason to love their transportation," he said.
Only the first $20 of the trip will be free, and Uber stresses riders to be patient as they work to fulfill all requests.
In order to participate, you must have an Uber account, which is free to sign up through Uber's iPhone/Android app.
While Uber's core black car service is available in 13 cities worldwide, Allen said Chicago is the only market that currently offers taxi service currently and, thus, Free Taxi Week.
