When Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy said last week he was "guilty as charged" for supporting the biblical definition of marriage as between a man and woman, it sparked a contentious debate.
This week, Ald. Proco "Joe" Moreno stepped into the fray, saying would block the chain from opening its second Chicago store in Logan Square. His stance drew both support and condemnation among RedEye readers on our Facebook page. Here is a sampling of the comments.
"Hell to the no! Don't want them anywhere." Tara Slayermag
"Open a Harold's Chicken Shack instead! Keep the hate out of Chicago!" Zlatko Todosijevic
"help a local business open. Don't turn Logan into a mall. A community has the right to tell fast food swill to take a hike." Mason Payne
"jobs affect 100% of people. Gay marriage 3% or less, priorities? IL and Chicago = FAIL" Patrick Hayes
"This is completely stupid, since when has it been a crime to voice your opinion in this country. It seems that if someone's opinion differs from the popular view they are crucified. So what Chick-Fil-A has conservative views it is their right! Just as it is the right for any person to be gay in this country, but oops i forgot if someone disagrees with gays, they are crucified for it." Jerry Vincent Juat
"no, they arent even open Sundays" Ed Toribio
"I just don't want additional fast food joints. I moved from a town where that was all we had. If I wanted chick-fil-a that bad, I would have lived near one." Stephanie Brandenburg
"This is great, no one want's to be discriminated against, especially in their own neighborhood." Thomas C. Cirnigliaro
"We as customers and constituents very much have the right to tell Chick-fil-A that we don't want or appreciate their business. That's how free markets work. Kudos to Joe for standing up to them! I live in Logan and love its diversity and small businesses. Keep the bland, hate filled chicken out of my neighborhood!" Lindzi Anderson
"No need for this chain anywhere in Chicago, instead of allowing this one to open the city needs to force the one in the Loop out." Sean Donnell
