Which box won our Choose Your News(stand) Contest?
In honor of our 10th birthday in October, RedEye asked Chicago artists to make over a few of our newsstands that needed a bit of love. The seven finalists showed their work at Tribune Tower on Oct. 30 and collected your votes for your favorites online and in person. Which three boxes garnered the most votes? Check out the winners and all of the designs below.

3RD PLACE: "Chicago Music Box - A City Soundscape" by Lauren Schroer
"I love creating art using musical notation and I love my adopted home of Chicago. This city is the birth place of the blues, and is home to many famous music venues and festivals.
I've transformed Chicago's musical legacy into art by referencing sheet music from five different songs to create the skyline. Incorporating a little bit of old with a little bit of new, I used the Chicago Bears fight song, Frank Sinatra's 'My Kind of Town,' Paper Lace's 'The Night Chicago Died,' Kanye West's 'Homecoming' and Robert Johnson's 'Sweet Home Chicago.'" |
