*The submission period has ended. Thanks for entering!
Ever wanted to spruce up those red newsstands of ours that you've seen peppered throughout the city for the past 10 years? To celebrate our 10th birthday, we're giving 10 artists and groups 30 days and their very own RedEye newsstand to decorate, design and display, not to mention a cash prize for the winners. (Editor's note: Don't worry, we are not getting rid of the original RedEye newsstands. These are the only 10 boxes that will feature new designs.) Want in? Here are the details:
-Groups cannot consist of more than 10 people.
-Artists will have from Oct. 1 until Oct. 30 to plan and execute their designs.
-The theme: #chicagoinabox. We like to keep things broad, huh?
-RedEye (I, Jessica) will be checking with the teams every week to document their progress with photos and posts on the RedEye website.
-Newsstands will be displayed in Pioneer Court next to Tribune Tower (435 N. Michigan Ave.) on Oct. 30, where people can cast their votes for their favorite box.
-Top three winning newsstands will receive cash prizes: $500, first place; $300, second place; $200, first place.
-First place winner(s) will also win tickets to RedEye's 10-year birthday bash on Nov. 2.
RedEye is now accepting submissions for the contest. To submit your work for consideration, email the following to @email@example.com by 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27:
-3-5 images representing your best work
-Short paragraph about yourself/your group, how you would design the newsstand with the #chicagoinabox theme and why you should compete
Can't wait to see your work! Questions? Tweet me at @redeyechicago.
