Online or in line, Apple's hot new iPad 2 goes on sale Friday.
Starting at 3 a.m. Central Time, you can order online, and Apple is promising fast shipping. Or, starting at 5 p.m. everywhere, Apple will start selling the iPad in store and help you set it up before you leave. Even though this iPad will be available in more locations than during the previous generation, long lines are still expected at Apple's retail stores. Other locations to pick up an iPad, also starting at 5 p.m., include Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Target, and AT&T and Verizon stores.
Last time, the Wi-Fi model came out first followed by the 3G version about a month later. This time, all versions will be available at the same time.
One thing that hasn't changed is the price. A Wi-Fi only iPad 2 with 16 GB of space will cost you $499. It's $599 for the 32GB model and $699 for the 64GB model. A Wi-Fi and 3G version costs more but provides more connection options. The cost is $629 for the 16GB model, $729 for the 32GB model and $829 for the 64GB model.
Will you be purchasing an iPad 2? Will you do it online or in person? Yours truly will be at the North Michigan Avenue Apple Store starting at about 4:30 p.m. - I know, I know, I may be stuck in a long line. Please tweet @iptib or post on Facebook and let me know your plans.
