What a year! Wow! 365 days of stuff just happening nonstop! Everywhere we looked, there was news, out there, occurring! Some of it was good, some of it was bad, some of it made for cringeworthy memes. And whether we were fact-checking the Mayan calendar to see if we should bother making dinner plans for Dec. 22 or constantly refreshing Nate Silver's polling roundups to decide how to play our electoral college betting pool, it was a year in which numbers reigned supreme:We determined how many times you only live (Answer: once; #yolo) and how many people thought Rick Santorum should be president (a lot). We watched in horror as the death toll mounted from shootings at and around an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. (28), a movie theater in Aurora, Colo. (12) and a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisc. (7), among others. We pretended we were authorities on the scoring system in women's gymnastics and kept count of the number of opponents Katniss had left to face in "The Hunger Games." We tallied the damage of Hurricane Sandy ($50 billion) and the net worth of Blue Ivy Carter (also $50 billion?). We witnessed the price of a Twinkie rise to a thousand times the price of a gallon of gas. Yes, 2012 was a year of numbers. Here are some more that stood out.Want more?
