Whether you have guests in town expecting the full tourist treatment or just want to act like a visitor in your own city for a day, this walk will take you by some of the city's most celebrated legends of eating and drinking.
Start your jaunt with a Chicago-style hot dog at local claim-to-fame Portillo's (100 W. Ontario St. 312-587-8930).
Next, slurp a milkshake with a side of snark at Ed Debevic's (640 N. Wells St. 312-664-1707), a '50s-style diner known for its comically sassy servers.
Swing by barbecue institution Carson's Ribs (612 N. Wells St. 312-280-9200) for a taste of hickory-smoked meats such as chicken, pork chops and baby back ribs.
To try the famous deep-dish pizza that launched a national chain, brave the lines at Pizzeria Uno (29 E. Ohio St. 312-321-1000).
Or for a lighter, crispier take on Chicago-style pizza, try Lou Malnati's (439 N. Wells St. 312-828-9800)
Head north and soak up some history with your cocktail at Green Door Tavern (678 N. Orleans St. 312-664-5496), a tavern that operated as a speakeasy during Prohibition.
Or head to River North's east side for a beer at Billy Goat Tavern (430 N. Michigan Ave. 312-222-1525), the bar that inspired the famous "Cheezborger, cheezborger" skit on "Saturday Night Live."
A few blocks away, Shaw's Crab House (21 E. Hubbard St. 312-527-2722) started shucking oysters years before their recent return to trendiness. If you still have any room in your stomach, try the indulgent lobster roll.
Stroll west and tip your hat as you arrive at Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse (33 W. Kinzie St. 312-828-0966), an Italian restaurant, steakhouse and sports bar named for the late Cub announcer.
End your walking tour at massive concert venue House of Blues (329 N. Dearborn St. 312-923-2000), where live music is booked nearly every night of the week.
