"He was just leaving the club and decided to punch the sprinkler," said Miguel DeLeon, marketing director for the SpyBar at 646 N. Franklin St. "We evacuated the club.
"We are having our 15th anniversary celebration this weekend," he added. "And to have this happen the night before."
The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m., according to police. Samuel Clucas, 27, of Burbank told police his head hit the sprinkler, but a camera showed him taking a swipe at it, police said. He was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property.
The sprinkler sprayed water a few inches deep inside the basement bar and club, police said. Contractors were immediately called to dry out the bar, police said.
DeLeon said the damage was confined to the area underneath the sprinkler, and that the weekend celebration is proceed as planned. "This happened on the opposite side of the DJ booth, so the party is going on as planned."
