Two Walmart employees were arrested Monday for allegedly using special store debit cards to steal thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from the Chicago Avenue store, county prosecutors said Tuesday.
Antwon Monegan, 23, of the 2500 block of West Augusta, and Antoinet Kyle, 23, of the 2500 block of East 74th Place, were arrested at the 225 W. Chicago Ave. store after a Walmart loss-prevention agent told police officers that they were caught on store security cameras. They were allegedly transferring funds to each other using loadable store debit cards and ringing up their purchases at each other's cash registers without actually receiving any payment for the transactions.
Monegan allegedly took about $3,500 from the store during the month of October, while Kyle allegedly took more than $4,000.
Both were brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Tuesday. Kyle was released on a $25,000 I-bond and Monegan was released on a $30,000 I-bond.
