As we embark on beach season, SHAPE magazine will host its Summer Beach Tour from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at North Ave. Beach.
The event will include fitness classes led by Chicago Athletic Club instructors and an exclusive class taught by Hollywood Trainer Jeanette Jenkins. Guests will also enjoy summer fashion shows, interactive beauty cabanas, product-packed gift bags and additional fitness classes including Turbo Kick, Latin Dance Fusion and Lakeside Vinyasa Yoga.
But the fun won't stop there. SHAPE will host an afterparty at Castaways, at 1603 N. Lake Shore Drive from 3 to 5 p.m. Party-goers will be able to mix and mingle while enjoying magaritas.
This is the fourth year for the annual event, but this will mark its first stop in Chicago. John Balen, associate publisher of marketing for SHAPE, said the city reflects the market they hope to reach.
"It's a major demographic with a healthy, active lifestyle prevalent here," Balen said. "We thought it would be different and unique and the Chicago lakefront is fantastic and comparable to any other beach around the country."
Balen said the inspiration for the event is to bring the pages of the magazine to life for readers.
"We want to provide the tools and resources so that women can feel empowered," he said. "SHAPE is all about achieving your health and wellness goals and we want consumers to walk away feeling great about themselves."
The event is open to the public and free to attend. Fitness classes are $10 each. All proceeds from the day will be donated to The Skin Cancer Foundation.
