Tuesday is the last day to register to vote for the March primary election.

A new state law allows 17-year-olds to vote in the primary if they will be 18 years old by the general election.

"We hope to see many young voters make history at this election," Langdon D. Neal, Chicago Election Board chairman, said in a news release.

The election board has extended hours from 9 a.m. to midnight on Tuesday at its offices at 69 W. Washington St. to register new voters or update voters' addresses.

The "grace period" when Chicagoans can still register and vote in person during the same visit starts Feb. 19 and ends March 15.

The primary election is March 18.
