The viaducts on Wilson and Lawrence Avenues under Lake Shore Drive in Uptown are ready for a facelift.
Chicagoans can vote on which mural designs they would like to see beautify the two viaducts through Aug. 8.
Before work on the murals begins, the state will have to make minor repairs on the bridges and the city will repaint the viaducts, according to the newsletter from Ald. James Cappleman (46th).
"The work for these underpasses will need to last until the state of Illinois has sufficient funds to do the major overhaul of the bridges, which could be 10 more years," Cappleman said in the newsletter.
"In the meantime, improving this area will make the neighborhood look more welcoming to residents that walk and bicycle to the lake shore as well as motorists driving into the neighborhood from Lake Shore Drive."
