Eight hundred dollars would buy a lot of bourbon and barbecue.
That's how much money a Chicago man was accused of spending with a fake card Saturday to purchase gift cards from the River North restaurant Bub City, county prosecutors said.
Michael Spencer, 25, of the 7300 block of South California Avenue, was arrested Saturday just after 8:30 p.m. and charged with possession of a counterfeit credit card after he allegedly tried to buy eight $100 gift cards to the restaurant with a fake card.
A Bub City employee called the card company to verify Spencer's information, the police report said, and then called the police after being told his name did not match the card number.
Spencer was brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon and ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bond.
