The Chicago Police Department is warning West Side CTA riders about a set of robberies that were reported on the Blue Line's O'Hare branch this winter.
The police department alert, released Monday morning, said both robberies occurred at the Blue Line Western stop, at 1909 North Western Avenue. In the first incident, which was reported on Jan. 6, a person, described in the alert as a black male in his 20s between 5 foot 6 inches and 6 feet weighing between 150 and 200 pounds., robbed a 32-year-old woman at close to 6:45 a.m. In the second incident, an offender with the same description reportedly robbed a 28-year-old woman on Feb. 23 at 6:25 a.m.
In both cases the women were on or exiting the Blue Line train at the Western stop when a man grabbed personal property from them and fled on foot, the alert said. The Western stop is in the 14th police district, in Logan Square.
Police officials said CTA riders can help protect themselves from crime by not talking on their cell phones when walking or riding on the trains.
