Rogers Park resident Tim Sarrantonio wasn't going to let his 30th birthday pass like any other day. He made sure to ring in his third decade in style.
On Sunday, April 29, Sarrantonio hosted "The Timtacular," a massive birthday party with a philanthropic twist. More than 800 people were invited to Goose Island Wrigleyville to be entertained by live music and stand-up comedy from Cameron Esposito while at the same time supporting a handful local charities.
"All these people would be gathering anyway," Sarrantonio said. "I thought, why don't we turn all this energy into a force for good."
The $60 entry fee to "The Timtacular," gave attendees Goose Island food and drink plus entertainment from the Neo-futurists, stand-up comedian Cameron Esposito and local band Sexy Fights.
Sarrantonio started planning the event back in September, and he said it will be a long time before he ever considers doing something like this again.
"I need a little break," Sarrantonio said, "but I hope this can be a template for other people who want to volunteer or want to give back."Copyright © 2015, RedEye
