Fashion Focus: Chicago's Fashion Week kicks off this week with runway shows and other fashion and shopping events throughout the city. Although many official city-sponsored shows sold out immediately, there are still plenty of other great (and often free) affiliated events worth checking out.

Put on your vintage goldfish heels and get to work with fashion consulting and development firm, V. Mora who's hosting a disco-themed networking event perfect for budding and aspiring designers. Offerings include a DJ, refreshments and a workshop on "5 Mistakes New Designers Make," by V. Mora founder Anna Livermore. 6-9 p.m. Tuesday. Free. RSVP: studio820.eventbrite.com.
Illinois Artisans, Chicago Art Spree

Get an early start on your holiday shopping at this monthly indoor art fair hosted by the Illinois Artisans Program. Check out handmade jewelry, accessories and other goods crafted by 15 local artists. If you can't make it either day, the gift shop on the second floor is open daily. 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Free.

Catch the next wave of local fashion at this splashy runway show. Along with looks from veteran designers, the evening includes a design challenge featuring the work of 10 local fashion design students. The top three students selected will win fabrics and art supplies to help further their education. Modern Vintage Chicago Preview Shopping Party and Fashion Installation

From the producers/geniuses of Randolph Street Market, Modern Vintage Chicago is a shopping event that focuses on vintage fashion, jewelry and accessories. This preview party includes early access to vendors, appetizers from Belly Q, cocktails and a DJ. For the eco-chic, the Green Ribbon Foundation is hosting a night of sustainable fashion, entertainment and networking. The evening includes environmentally friendly businesses as well as drinks and snacks from organic restaurants. Designers include Stix and Roses by Sararose Krenger, Allison Parris, H.e. FashionBar Chicago presents LVW (Love, Vision, Women) Fashion Show
