Police issued a community alert this morning warning of a man who tried to lure three children with cash in the Belmont Central neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The three kids were approached by the man about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 5700 block of West Belden Street. Police said the man tried start a conversation with them while displaying cash. The children ran to safety, police said.

The man was described as white with a light complexion, straight black hair and a white beard. He is between the ages of 50 and 60, 6 feet to 6 feet, 2 inches tall, said police. He was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and black high boots.

The children told police the man frequents the McDonald's at 2350 N. Central Ave. and has a raspy voice.
