A lawyer who represents Chicago cops accused of misconduct has alerted the president of the police union that federal law enforcement is investigating certain police-involved shootings.
In a letter dated Aug. 29, attorney Daniel Herbert told Fraternal Order of Police President Dean Angelo that the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office were probing shootings “in which an offender’s gun was not recovered.”
The letter did not reveal the shootings under investigation.
A copy of Herbert’s letter was first posted earlier today on the Second City Cop blog.
Herbert could not be reached for comment, and spokespeople for the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to comment. But Angelo confirmed he received the letter from Herbert.
“I didn’t hear about any particular officer, any particular case, any particular investigation,” he said. “But I did remind our guys that they have rights like everyone else."Copyright © 2015, RedEye
