Hirsch High School on the South Side was locked down late Tuesday morning after reports of shots fired nearby, according to police and school officials.

The school at 7740 S. Ingleside Ave. was locked down as a precaution after there was an anonymous call of shots fired in the area, said Police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic.

Police responded and did not find any evidence that shots were fired, so the school resumed its normal operations in less than half an hour, Sedevic said.

Chicago Public Schools released a statement saying "staff acted swiftly and placed the school into lockdown mode for a brief period.  At no time were any students or staff in any danger, and CPS will work with CPD to ensure a safe dismissal today."
