High court rules on rights and marriage
The U.S. Supreme Court struck down a key part of the federal Defense of Marriage Act today, ruling that legally married same-sex couples are entitled to the same rights as all other married couples. The court voted 5-4 to not issue a ruling on California's Prop 8 appeal. While it does not set a national precedent, it does clear the way for same-sex marriage to resume in California.
