Seven months after Derrion Albert was punched, stomped and beaten to death with wooden planks in a brawl that was captured on video, students say the Fenger High School climate has improved dramatically. Fenger became synonymous with youth violence, and the spotlight forced students and staff to reckon with it in a way no other Chicago school has. Officials expelled perceived troublemakers, beefed up security and provided more busing.
