MIAMI, Fla. (KTLA) -- It's an injury you have to see to believe. A teen survives being shot through the skull with a spear gun.

The boy, 16-year-old Yasser Lopez, is now on the road to recovery, and his doctors say his prognosis is amazingly good.

Lopez was accidentally shot by his friend, who was packing up the spear gun for a fishing trip the two were going to take.

The horrifying mishap sent a three-foot spear into the Lopez's head.

The good news is that, somehow, the spear missed every major blood vessel in the teen's brain.

It also pierced the right side of his brain and not the left, which left his speech intact.

Surgeons were able to remove the spear from Lopez's head, leaving his brain with only a small amount of swelling.

He is in intensive care, and has two to three months of rehabilitation ahead of him, but doctors expect him to make a full recovery.

The teen says he has no memory of the accident.
