I am appalled by the time and money spent by the various courts banning the lighted cross display atop the St. Charles Fire Department building during the Christmas holidays. Part of the decision said this dramatically conveys a message of governmental support for Christianity.

By definition, Christmas is an annual church festival in memory of the birth of Christ. Thus, it appears any government agency providing its employees with Christmas holiday pay is in violation of the constitutional guarantee of separation of church and state. I would challenge the ACLU to direct its efforts to the elimination of this multimillion-dollar violation. Paid holidays for Easter and Good Friday should also prove to be viable targets.
