CTA to undergo Blue Line study

The CTA will study how to improve the Forest Park branch of the Blue Line between the Clinton and Forest Park stops, the agency announced Thursday.

The $1 million study will start next month, and the CTA will host public meetings this summer, CTA spokesman Brian Steele said.

"In terms of slow zones and deterioriation, I don't know if we would characterize [the Forest Park Blue Line branch] as the worst [section of the CTA], but it is reaching the end of its useful lifespan," Steele said.

There is no funding set aside for Forest Park branch improvements.

The study is being paid for by federal funding, some through the Village of Oak Park, and a $100,000 matching grant from CTA.

The Forest Park branch was built in 1958. The study is being done in conjunction with the reconstruction of the Eisenhower Expressway.

The CTA said it also plans this summer to deep clean and repair the Austin Blue Line stop.

In addition, the agency will perform some maintenance on the Forest Park branch in 2014. Nearly 28 percent of the branch was under slow zone last month.
