The CTA board today approved a $23 million overhaul of the Illinois Medical District Blue Line stop.

Under the plan, the CTA would rebuild the stationhouse, make multiple entrances accessible to riders with disabilities and enhance lighting and signs, the CTA said.

This would be the first overhaul to the station since it opened 56 years ago.

The station logs about 3,400 weekday riders, according to an August ridership report. The station sees the third-highest ridership on the West Side branch of the Blue Line, the CTA said.

The changes would be paid for by the Chicago Neighborhoods Now program, a mix of public and private funding.
