Edgewater residents are on track to see an improved Bryn Mawr Red Line station.
The CTA board on Tuesday approved authorizing an agreement with the city to use local funding to help pay for enhancements at the station, which include a stationhouse overhaul and an elevator.
The Edgewater station was not part of this year's project to improve seven North Side Red Line stations by fixing viaducts, replacing lighting and signs and painting walls and stairwells. The CTA finished that project earlier this month.
About 6,000 riders board the CTA at the Bryn Mawr station each weekday.
For Bryn Mawr, the CTA has identified $25 million in funds for improving the station. Fifteen million dollars comes from state and federal funds while $10 million comes from tax increment financing, money intended to promote redevelopment in certain areas in the city.
Details of what specific work will occur at the station and a timeline for when work will begin have not yet been determined, the CTA said. Staff for Edgewater Ald. Osterman (48th) did not return a request for comment.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
