A small fire on the tracks of the CTA's Red Line train briefly forced trains to be rerouted onto the elevated tracks this morning, officials said.

The fire was spotted on an incline that leads into the subway tunnels just south of the Roosevelt Road station at about 6:30 a.m., CTA spokeswoman Molly Sullivan said.

There was a small amount of smoke, and trains were rerouted to the elevated tracks between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown as a precaution, she said.

Red Line service was being restored to normal as of 6:50 a.m.
