Police have issued a community alert warning about a man who sexually assaulted a woman near a Blue Line station in the Mayfair neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
The man, believed to be 20 to 25 years old, approached the 24-year-old woman from behind as she walked through a landscape path in the 4500 block of West Agatite Avenue around 9:55 p.m. Monday, police said. The path is near the entrance of the CTA Blue Line.
The man grabbed her by the neck and pushed her face down to the ground in an area of flowers, and then tried to remove her clothes, according to police.

He choked and punched the woman, who screamed and scared off the attacker, police said. The woman believes she may have scratched the man on the right side of his face.
The victim ran to the 4600 block of West Montrose Avenue and was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital for lacerations to the face and knee.
Police described the attacker as an Hispanic or dark-skinned Caucasian man, about 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10, 130 to 160 pounds, with black hair. He was last seen wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt, police said.
Police do not believe the attack was related to one Sunday morning in the Albany Park neighborhood, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
