A woman was able to escape an attacker near the Midway Orange Line with the help of two passersby, according to police.

The 18-year-old woman was walking in the 4600 block of West 59th Street about 1 a.m. Monday when a man approached, threw her on the ground and hit her in the head, according to a police alert issued Thursday.

The man tried to sexually assault the woman, but she was able to get away with help of two people and the attacker fled, police said.

The attacker is described as Hispanic, between 20 and 25, about 5-foot-2 and weighing about 200 pounds. He had brown hair, cut short, and brown eyes. He was wearing a red baseball cap, a red shirt and blue pants.

Anyone with information was asked to call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.
